Survivor: Edith Kirshen

Sometimes when we meet a person who went through a tragic experience, we mistakenly focus on their suffering. When I met Edith, I got to know a wonderful human being. Even after the interview process, we kept in touch. We created a special bond, a true friendship. She gave me some good recipes, spoke about her family and told me about her different hobbies and accomplishments in life. These precious moments I shared with her showed me her strength and resilience. Her ability to keep going, focus on the present and build a life for herself has definitely had a great impact on me. Edith is much more than a Holocaust survivor — she is a truly admirable woman.
